A mirrorless camera and prime lenses on a warm wooden table in golden-hour light

The honest part

Every buying-guide site says it tested twenty cameras. We haven't tested any — and we say so.

We don't run a lab, so instead of faking hands-on tests we compile the published specs, read the manuals, do the cost math, and show our sources. That's a claim we can stand behind — which is more than a fabricated one is worth. See exactly how we pick.

Where to start

Everything we cover

Cameras, the lenses that matter more than the body, and the creator gear that finishes the kit — each ranked with live prices.

Our top picks

The difference

What we do that the others don't

Prices that are actually live

Every number comes from Amazon's API and is stamped with the date we checked it. If our data is more than 48 hours old, the price disappears and the button says "Check price" — it never shows you a stale figure. Not one competitor in this category does this.

We publish the rubric

Every score breaks into named metrics — sensor, autofocus, video, handling, value — and /methodology explains each one. Nobody else in this space tells you what their number is made of.

The real total cost

The body is only part of the price. Our beginner-kit guide does the math on the lens, the card and the battery you'll actually buy — the number every other site leaves out.

We don't run a testing lab

And we won't write "in our testing" as though we do. We compile specs, cite manufacturer documentation, and tell you plainly when we couldn't verify something.

How this is funded

We earn a commission. Here's exactly how that works.

Focal & Frame is funded by the Amazon Associates program. When you buy through one of our links we earn a small commission, at no extra cost to you. No brand pays us for placement, no manufacturer sends us gear, and no commission rate has ever changed a ranking — which is why you'll find a $99 lens ranked above a $2,000 one on this site.
